Push-ups

Push-ups is a strength discipline in BYOH, trained with bodyweight and building chest and arms. Its ladder runs from 1 rep at Level 1 to 100+ reps at Level 9, and Level 10 is the world record.

The ten levels

BYOH measures a discipline in ten cleared levels. Level 9 is a genuine feat; Level 10 is the standing world record, which is there to be looked at rather than reached.

Push-ups starts at Level 1 with 1 rep. Level 5 asks for 30 reps, and Level 9 - the last level a person can train towards - 100+ reps. The largest single jump is from Level 8 to Level 9, 75 reps to 100+ reps.

How it is done

  1. Lie on the floor face down and place your hands about 36 inches apart while holding your torso up at arms length.
  2. Next, lower yourself downward until your chest almost touches the floor as you inhale.
  3. Now breathe out and press your upper body back up to the starting position while squeezing your chest.
  4. After a brief pause at the top contracted position, you can begin to lower yourself downward again for as many repetitions as needed.

How the attempt is judged

A level only means something if two heroes clearing it have done the same thing. These are the rules BYOH counts an attempt by — they are the rules of a game, not coaching.

What counts as one
One repetition is chest to within a fist of the floor and arms straight again, body in one line throughout.
The set
One unbroken set. You may pause in the supported position for as long as you like; the set ends the moment you leave it.
What you need
Hands about shoulder width on a firm flat surface. The supported position is the top, arms straight.
What ends it
A knee or hip touching the floor ends the set, as does resting on the floor at the bottom. Half repetitions do not count.

What it builds

Push-ups feeds Chest and Arms in a hero’s record, working chest, shoulders, triceps.

  • Pressing endurance
  • Pressing strength
  • Press control
  • Triceps
  • Shoulders
  • Anterior bracing

Push-ups is one of 32 strength disciplines. It shares its bodyweight requirement with 13 other strength disciplines. Chest is also built by dumbbell bench press, barbell bench press, dumbbell floor press and 3 more, and a broad attribute needs several of them rather than one taken far.
